Happy New Year!!

A (slightly) belated Happy New Year to all - I hope everyone has a fantastic 2017!
2016 was a really tough one for me due to some horrendous personal stuff - not much time for drawing (or anything else). 'One Day at A Time' (2016) below reflects that - each bottle contains the residues from a days drawing - and there is a grand total of 30, with very little in them...

I am hoping things will be better this year - at least to be able to spend regular time in my studio. I really need to do some serious thinking & reflection on the direction I want my work to go so my New Year Art Resolution is just to do something (anything!) on a weekly basis until I've made some decisions.
I also need to spend some time on my website. I have just found out whilst updating issuu links (new coding, so my current links will stop working soon) that my web design software isn't up to it and has been discontinued so I have to decide whether to start from scratch, get someone else to do it or see what other alternatives are out there. So annoying! As a temporary fix I will probably just add links directly to my issuu publications (if I can remember how to update my website - it's been so long :)) Luckily the blog issuu links (sidebar) have updated fine so that's a relief.
Here's to a productive, healthy and positive 2017!

The title of the show is actually quite pertinent to how much I've posted recently - and unfortunately it's not going to get much better any time soon. 2016 has thrown me a massive curved ball,  without going into details I am likely to be absent for a bit longer. I will still be spending precious time to in my studio but am having a bit of a sabbatical in terms of applying for any opportunities so there won't be much news for a while.

2016 already!!!

A while ago I posted about an A3 light box I'd got to test as a way of showing my layered digital drawings (above left). I've been spending as much time as possible working on the backlog (as usual not enough as I'd like) but I decided to splash out on an AO one (above right) to give myself a bit of an incentive to finish my second layer drawing ('clap'). There are a number of ways the 'hold' drawings can be combined - and I didn't spend any time experimenting - they just went in the way they came out of the cardboard tube - but I am really excited about the potential. The images without the light turned on (as above) still work - although there is a much 'starker' black and white feel - but once the light is on the subtleties really show. The largest light box in this style is AO which is smaller than the drawings at 1:1 and this has made me realise I need to move away from 'only print the size it is drawn' for at least some of the drawings if I want to play around with different ways of presenting the work. I could, of course, get bespoke boxes etc. made to exactly the size I want but that would involve me winning the lottery and I'm not sure I can wait that long.

3 down...

Release 1-3, hand drawn digital, 1016 x 1372 mm (each)
3 more digital drawings finished (at least for now) but still quite a few in progress. I am prioritising finishing the back log this year (and probably part of next). I need to do this before I can get a proper sense of where I am in relation to my work as a whole.
